Jason Segel has claimed his I Love You, Man character is based on Russell Brand.
Speaking at the film's VIP screening in central London, Jason - who worked with the British comic on Forgetting Sarah Marshall - said that Russell's mannerisms were appropriate for his character Sydney.
"I prepared for my role just by copying Russell Brand, that was really my main goal," he said, adding: "Russell has a real 'this is who I am - take it or leave it' attitude that I noticed during (Forgetting) Sarah Marshall that I thought would be perfect for this character - so I just ripped off Russell basically."
However co-star Paul Rudd admitted his character was partly based on himself.
He said: "There are facets of my own personality that I think I was able to play up a little bit in this part, but it wasn't really based on anyone in particular except myself unfortunately."
Both Jason and co-star Paul, whose character Peter bonds with Sydney during his quest to find a best man for his wedding, were reluctant to label the film a 'bromance'.
"We hate that term because it is trying to put a label on simple male friendship isn't it?" said Jason.
Paul added: "(It's) an annoying way to describe it. It's one of those terms that I think you chuckle the first time you hear it and then by the third time you hear it you just go 'ugh'."
Director John Hamburg said the 'man dates' which feature in the film are realistic. "I think it happens, I mean guys don't talk about it that much. But sensitive evolved males like me can talk about it," he laughed.
I Love You, Man is out in UK cinemas on April 17.
